You can’t explain Spain without eggs.

Huevos are at the heart of iconic dishes like tortilla de patata and huevos rotos. They form part of daily expressions - Spaniards use manda huevos (literal meaning: send eggs) to signal disbelief or indignation. Tener huevos is when someone shows balls or cojones. If something is expensive, it can be described as costing an egg. And darle la vuelta a la tortilla, or "flip the omelette," refers to turning a situation around. There are dozens more.

In Spain, eggs are everywhere.

But lately, they've become a metaphor for escalating global instability and economic turbulence.

Unable to halt severe price rises, Spain's egg industry is under pressure.
